The Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) is absolutely thrilled to announce a landmark achievement: we have secured a voting seat on the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Council.
This is more than a milestone — it's a pivotal moment that significantly elevates our standing and influence across the UK’s built environment sector. We now hold a direct voice at the highest strategic level of the UK construction industry's representative body.
This isn’t just another accolade. It’s transformational, marking the RPSA’s elevation from respected contributor to influential decision-maker in national construction governance.
Being a voting member means we now have direct influence in shaping national policy, especially in the areas of:
It sends a loud and clear message: The voice of independent residential surveyors isn’t just being heard — it’s being counted.
What Is the Construction Industry Council (CIC)?
Formed in 1988, the CIC brings together:
It serves as “a single voice for professionals in all sectors of the built environment” , uniting professional bodies, research institutions, and specialist business associations. Crucially, the CIC can speak with authority on key issues affecting construction, without being bound to any one discipline’s self-interest.
With our new seat on the Council, the RPSA becomes an integral part of this influential network.
What This Means for You – Our Members
This breakthrough supercharges the RPSA’s influence — and yours.
We’ll soon be inviting expressions of interest for members to represent the RPSA on CIC working groups and subcommittees — a fantastic chance to help shape the future of our industry.
Strategic Collaboration to Drive Real Change
Our initial engagement will focus on key CIC committees where the RPSA’s practical, field-based insight can have the greatest impact:
Drawing on data and insights from our real-world surveys, we move discussions from theory to evidence-based policy. Born out of the Grenfell disaster, this committee's work is critical, and we now have a direct say.
Influencing the training of future professionals. We’ll champion robust quality assurance and practical defect identification as core competencies.
Supporting safety across the full construction lifecycle — from planning to completion — with our focus on identifying structural and safety-critical issues.
Bringing consumer-facing experience to the table. Our insights into defect-driven disputes help pre-empt costly issues and support early resolution.
Contributing to conversations about next-gen surveying — including use of thermal imaging, photographic evidence, and AI-enhanced diagnostics.
Feeding in practical observations from surveys about insulation, thermal performance, and “in-use” sustainability.
By integrating the RPSA’s unique residential surveying perspective into CIC’s broader work, we help foster a more holistic and accountable built environment sector.
Strengthening Consumer Confidence in New Build Homes
This new role sends a powerful message to the public: The interests of homeowners are being represented at the highest level of the UK construction industry.
Through our contributions to building safety and quality assurance, the RPSA is helping to rebuild trust in new residential construction — a vital need for the industry.
As trust grows, so too will the demand for independent, high-quality surveyors.
It’s a virtuous cycle:
👉 Better standards → More trust → More surveys → More influence
A Proud Milestone — and a New Chapter Begins
This isn’t just a reward for our work so far. It’s a springboard for greater impact.
Together, we will:
We’re proud to take this step on behalf of every RPSA member.
