Like many in the surveying profession, Andrew McColl came to it as a second career. After a successful period in the construction industry, where he held senior roles overseeing major commercial and housebuilding projects, he retrained via the Home Inspector route to pursue his long-held interest in helping people enjoy better homes.

Andrew established AM Surveys, an independent practice based in Essex, and has practised as a surveyor for many years. Although he has since stepped away from the day-to-day running of the business, the profession remains a family affair—with his daughter and son both working as surveyors, and another daughter supporting the sector as an office administrator and report writer.

A founding director of the Residential Property Surveyors Association, Andrew is the longest-serving Council member, having been involved since its inception. Over the past five years, he has successfully led the RPSA panel operation, returning millions of pounds to members while raising service standards and visibility across the industry.

He became Chairman on 1 February 2025, taking up the role with a clear mission to build on the work of his predecessors. His current focus includes expanding member benefits, unlocking new business opportunities, and championing the RPSA’s Chartered Status pathway. He also represents the Association at industry and government level, ensuring the voice of independent surveyors is heard at the highest level.

Andrew lives in Essex with his wife Alison. Away from the world of surveying, he enjoys travel, cooking for family and friends, and the occasional well-earned glass of red wine.
