Practical protection for your surveying practice
RPSA members have access to current, professionally prepared and legally reviewed client Terms and Conditions for core residential survey services.
These include clear provisions covering the scope of the service, client responsibilities, consumer rights and a legally checked liability cap. They give members a stronger, more consistent foundation for accepting instructions, managing expectations, and reducing avoidable disputes.
Members also receive practical guidance covering complaints handling, dispute resolution, data protection, health and safety, artificial intelligence and other important areas of professional practice.
Useful documents, ready when you need them
The RPSA Useful Documents library provides an expanding collection of templates, policies and guidance written specifically for residential surveying practices.
Resources include:
Client Terms and Conditions for different survey services

- Complaints Handling Procedures
- Consumer and dispute resolution guidance
- GDPR and data-processing documents
- Health and safety inspection guidance
- Artificial intelligence policies
- Survey reporting guidance
- New-build inspection guidance
- Business and professional practice policies
These documents are regularly reviewed and updated as professional practice, legislation and industry expectations develop.
Standards designed for residential surveyors
RPSA standards are written around the work our members actually undertake.
Members benefit from clear inspection and reporting standards for residential surveys, together with dedicated New Build Inspection and Reporting Standards.
Our guidance supports consistent, evidence-based reporting while preserving the surveyor’s professional judgement.
Practical CPD included with membership
Members have access to the growing RPSA CPD Series, covering the technical, legal and professional issues that affect residential surveyors in everyday practice.
Courses are designed to provide practical learning that can be applied directly to inspections, reports, client communication and business procedures.
Members also receive regular industry news, technical updates, events and opportunities to learn from experienced practitioners.
A professional voice where decisions are made
RPSA represents the interests of independent residential surveyors at national, industry and government level.
The Association is a full voting member of the Construction Industry Council and is represented on the steering group of the Home Buying and Selling Council. We also maintain dialogue with organisations including the New Homes Quality Board and contribute to relevant consultations and industry working groups.
This gives independent residential surveyors a voice in discussions that shape professional standards, consumer protection, home buying and selling, and the sector's future.
Consumer confidence and independent redress
Active practising members are covered by The Property Ombudsman redress scheme through the RPSA umbrella, at no additional membership cost.
Members can also use the appropriate RPSA designation and branding, subject to their membership grade, and clients and industry professionals can check this through the RPSA Verify a Member service.
Together, these provide visible reassurance that the surveyor belongs to a professional association with defined standards, conduct requirements and independent redress arrangements.
Opportunities through the RPSA survey panel
Eligible members can apply to undertake instructions through the RPSA national survey panel.
The panel connects clients and national partners with suitably qualified local surveyors. Instructions are offered according to location, capacity, experience and the requirements of each service.
Panel participation also includes operational support, clear service standards and established administrative processes.
Support from people who understand your work
Membership gives you access to people who understand the realities of residential surveying and running an independent practice.
Whether you need guidance on a difficult client situation, help interpreting a professional requirement or simply the opportunity to discuss an issue with experienced colleagues, the RPSA provides practical and approachable support.
Professional recognition
Full members may use the designation MRPSA, while Technical members may use RPSATech.
Members can display the appropriate RPSA logo on their website, reports and professional material, demonstrating their commitment to residential surveying standards and ongoing professional development.
