Interesting Work Opportunities

English Housing Survey: Paid part-time work for experienced residential surveyors (priority areas now recruiting) A few years ago, we were approached and asked to help promote opportunities to survey for the English Housing Survey (EHS), and we were very happy to do so. We have built a genuinely strong working relationship with the team, and they know the quality, professionalism and common sense that RPSA members bring to the table. That is exactly why they are coming back to our “gene pool” again now. They want experienced residential surveyors who can be trusted to represent the profession w...

RICS Consultation Response Marks a Critical Moment for Home Buying Reform

RICS response to home buying reform consultation signals a shift in direction On 9 January 2026, RICS published an article on its News and Insight platform setting out its response to the UK Government’s Home Buying and Selling Reform consultation. While the broad direction of this response had been widely anticipated across the sector, its publication marks an important moment for residential surveying and the wider housing market. The RICS position appears to support a move towards mandatory upfront condition reporting, drawing on models used in Scotland and other international jurisdictions. Such an approach has the potential to reshape how property condition information is provided, relied upon and regulated. We believe this development...

Once in a Generation Industry Game Changer.

Skyline Launches Seller’s Survey: A New Chapter for the Market. A significant new development has landed in the residential surveying world. Skyline Surveyors have launched the Home Insight Survey — the first structured seller-commissioned survey in England and Wales.Seller’s surveys are not new internationally. Scotland has long utilised its Single Survey system as part of the mandatory Home Report, and countries such as France, Norway, and Sweden have demonstrated that upfront information makes transactions faster, smoother, and far less likely to fail. Until now, though, sellers in England and Wales have had no equivalent option.Skyline has taken the lead, and their home insight survey is designed to do three things:Give sellers confidence by identifying issues before marketing,Provide buyers with reliable condition information at the point of offer,And reduce the risk of costly fall-throughs and renegotiations. With around 30% of transactions currently collapsing and average transaction times stretching to 22 weeks, the potential benefits are clear. By comparison, Scotland’s upfront system sees straightforward sales complete in just 6–8 weeks, with far fewer abortive costs. The question of trust is often raised. Will buyers accept a report commissioned by the seller? Evidence suggests yes. Research from the Department for Business found that 89% of buyers would find a seller...
