The government has announced plans for a voluntary scheme intended to help homeowners identify trusted traders and protect payments during home-improvement projects. According to BBC News, participating traders would need to meet standards on customer service, transparency and dispute resolution, while customer funds would be released in stages as agreed project milestones are completed.
The proposals have drawn mixed reactions. Industry and consumer bodies have welcomed further action against rogue operators but have also called for stronger measures, including licensing and improved enforcement. The announcement also includes plans to regulate private bailiffs in England and Wales.
