Tim Green brings a rich and varied background to the RPSA Council, combining hands-on engineering expertise with a deep commitment to the surveying profession. From a young age, Tim was immersed in practical projects—restoring old vehicles, building a go-kart and hovercraft, and later turning his attention to electronics. He even spent six years as a DJ in Cape Town, powered by sound systems he designed and built himself.
On returning to the UK, Tim joined the Electronics Department in Physiology at Oxford University while undertaking engineering courses at Oxford Polytechnic. He later moved into industry, working for Smiths Industries and other firms, where he specialised in DC-DC power conversion systems and induction cooking technologies.
Alongside his technical career, Tim was also renovating stone houses, gradually developing a passion for buildings and property. This interest turned into a professional ambition, and in 2007 he qualified as a surveyor. A member of the RPSA from its earliest days, Tim joined the Council in 2018 and has been a steady, wise presence ever since.
Tim has a particular interest in energy efficiency and the emerging retrofit industry—areas he believes will define the next generation of surveying. His contributions at Council meetings are thoughtful, measured, and always grounded in practical experience, making him a highly valued voice in the Association’s development.
He lives in Oxford with his wife and has three grown-up children and five grandchildren. When not immersed in all things technical or surveying, Tim enjoys holidaying with his family and grandchildren, sharing his curiosity and creativity across generations.
