The government has laid regulations to increase compensation for dependants of people who die from asbestos-related and other dust diseases, bringing their payments into line with awards available to affected workers. The changes also simplify the compensation calculation framework and are expected to take effect on 31 October 2026, subject to parliamentary approval.
Castle Green Homes has appealed Flintshire County Council’s refusal of a 315-home scheme in Ewloe, arguing the committee’s reasons for rejection were unsupported and amounted to unreasonable behaviour. The developer is also seeking full costs and has submitted a revised application for 276 homes while the appeal is considered.
The High Court has dismissed part of Svella Connect’s claim against Virgin Media, finding that the fibre network framework agreements did not create an implied duty of good faith or guarantee any minimum volume of work. The court held that Virgin Media was entitled to seek competing bids and allocate work as the contracts expressly allowed, although separate claims relating to a later exit and settlement agreement remain ongoing.
An employment tribunal has upheld claims of pregnancy and sex discrimination against Purplebricks Group plc, awarding a former agent more than £47,000 in damages. The case centred on the handling of the employee’s pregnancy disclosure, return to work on reduced hours, and the failure to adjust performance targets to reflect her circumstances.
